Location.
Type.
Features.
A private parking space is no longer a minor expense in many Swiss cities.
Location makes the difference
An outdoor space on the edge of a city can cost less than half as much as a sheltered space next to the main railway station.
Parking type affects the price
Outdoor spaces are generally cheaper, while underground parking and private garages offer more protection and comfort.
Extra features add to the cost
Charging stations, car lifts, extra-wide spaces, reserved fixed spaces or particularly good 24-hour access can increase the rent.

Geneva: roughly CHF 170 to CHF 325, with some premium listings above that.

Bern: around CHF 109 to CHF 270.
Outdoor space, underground parking or private garage: which costs more?
Outdoor parking space
Often cheaper, but without protection from the weather.
Underground parking
Protected from the weather and often more secure, so usually more expensive.
Garage / private box
Can offer more privacy and sometimes storage space. Often expensive in central locations.
Proximity to a railway station, 24-hour access, a car lift, extra width or a reserved space can further increase the price.
Charging stations often cost extra
Parking spaces with charging facilities often involve additional rental or operating costs.

One Basel listing quotes CHF 135 for a standard space and CHF 175 for a space with charging facilities. [5]

Standard rate: 8.1%
The current Swiss standard VAT rate is 8.1%. [10]
Not the same for every listing
Whether VAT applies in an individual case depends on the tax treatment of the rental.
Compare the final price
For a fair comparison, always ask for the final price including any VAT.
Which rules apply in Switzerland?
What matters is whether the parking space was rented separately or together with an apartment or commercial premises.
Two weeks’ notice to the end of a one-month rental period
This notice period generally applies unless the agreement provides otherwise or specifies a longer period. [11]
The main tenancy agreement determines the rules
If the parking space is part of the apartment rental, the notice rules of the main tenancy generally apply.
The space number, rent, VAT, notice period, access, vehicle dimensions and any charging conditions should be clearly agreed. [12]
